Picture of Karen

My name is Karen Pittelman, and don't worry, I'm not the gym teacher of writers. I'm out there in the trenches, too. I'm the author of two non-fiction books about social change philanthropy, Creating Change Through Family Philanthropy and Classified: How to Stop Hiding Your Privilege and Use It for Social Change, both from Soft Skull Press. My poetry has been published in Blip, The Pinch, New South, Sojourner, and Oberon. I also write songs for my country band Karen & The Sorrows. If you’d like to read some of my work, there are samples here. I graduated from Brown University in 1997 with a BA in Creative Writing.
